Welcome to WordPlay.
WordPlay is the brainchild of Freda, a ten year old resident of sunny Levenshulme.
Freda is a talented poet, who has already had her work published and has performed in front of hundreds of people.
She wanted something for people of her age to go to, to express themselves through words.
Luckily, Freda had a lot of connections in Levenshulme and gathered together a team of tutors and facilitators to help her idea become a reality.
WordPlay is a 12 week course, designed to help you gain confidence in story writing and poetry.
You will undertake a range of exercises to help you enjoy working with words and to find a style that suits your way of working.
The course finishes with a radio broadcast of your work on ALLFM (96.9FM) and a live performance at Levenshulme Old Library.

Freda Najjemba
I'm Freda, aged 10.
I have been writing poetry for three years and it is my favourite form of writing. My first poems were written with my Grandad, but after 4-5 months I realised I was writing a lot - I mean A LOT - independently. I found out about the Covid and Beyond project when I saw them campaigning outside my Grandma's flat in Cornwall. I decided to sign up for the poetry group; at first I was quite intimidated by all of the people but I learned to socialise with adults and I have participated in events such as the Big Local, local big night mics and Zoom events such as Poetry Clash (writing poetry in collaboration with a Scottish group) - this was great because we are now in a poetry alliance and work together. |
Hannah Knowles
Hi, I’m Hannah.
I’m a freelance writer, musician and workshop facilitator, here to help bring your ideas to life. I’ve been working with people of all ages for a few years now, both in the UK and in France. In my eyes, there’s nothing quite as fulfilling as helping to nurture or inspire a new notion, whatever form it may be in. When I’m at home, I like making up songs, poems and stories about the strange little parts of life that when pieced together, form a fantastical tapestry. My favourite book is The Third Policeman By Flann O’Brien - it’s a very surreal book, very nonsensical, which is just how I like things. I believe in the power of self expression and, most importantly, that words are meant to be played with. Instagram: @hannahknowles_writing Email: [email protected] Website: www.hkwriting.co.uk |
